Kiuas Dry Sauna

The Only Portable Sauna that Works.

Proper Finnish dry heat, in a sauna that folds away.

Not infrared. Not steam. Radiant and convection heat off a 1500 W element — the format nearly all the long-term sauna research was built on. Almost every portable sauna sold here is one of the other two.

Up in about ten minutes, then back in its bag when you're done.

Installation Guide

4 Steps. About 10 Minutes.

01

Unbox the Sauna

Everything ships in one box. Lift the parts out and lay them on the floor, that's the hardest bit done.

02

Setup Frame

Click the frame together, slide on the heatproof sleeves and attach using the plastic braces

03

Plug it in

Run the power lead out through the back of the tent and into a standard wall socket.

04

Turn It On

Set your temperature, give it about 15 minutes to warm through, and step in.

not the same as the gym one

Used the infrared box at my gym for about a year and always came out feeling like I'd been sitting in a warm car. This is a different animal. Proper dry heat, sweat starts before you've settled in. Wish I'd stopped paying that membership sooner.

Good, slow to warm up

We had a steam pod thing off one of those online sales, the sort where you sit with your head poking out the top. Never got past lukewarm. This is a different class, properly hot and dry as anything. The only thing I'd flag is the warm up. In our laundry it's a good twenty minutes before I'd bother getting in, closer to twenty five on a cold morning.

I was wrong

Wife bought it. I told her she'd bought a very expensive tent and that I'd never get in it. I'm in it more than she is now and she keeps reminding me. Should have kept my mouth shut.

Converted housemate

Housemate ordered it without asking and I was ropeable about losing the corner of the lounge. Few weeks on I'm the one texting to ask if she's using it tonight. It also comes down when we've got people over, which was my other worry.

Has not become an ornament

Bought this back in March after a mate up in the Hills had one going at his place. Most weeknights ever since, which surprised me, because there's a rowing machine in the same room I've barely touched since we moved in.

What makes it stick is how little there is to do. Switch it on, go hang the washing out, come back and it's ready. No filling it, no draining it.

The novelty wore off after a few weeks and then it just became the thing I do after work before dinner. The knee that plays up in the cold has been quieter, could be this, could be that I stopped running on the footpath. Either way I'm still at it in the middle of winter, which is more than I can say for most things I've bought online.

Earned its keep this winter

Winter in Hobart, so this thing has earned its keep. Started using it in April and I'm still on it nearly every day. The chair is basic... I sit on a folded towel and it's fine. Goes away in the cupboard when the in laws come.

Holds up, seat is average

Near enough daily since February and it's held up. Frame's still tight and the tent zips like it did on day one. My grumble is the seating. You're sat upright on a small chair with not much room to shift about, so after a while my lower back starts letting me know. I've taken to jamming a rolled towel behind me which sorts it. Everything else has been better than I expected for what it cost.

Does the job, two warnings

It does what it says and I use it most days, so this isn't me having a whinge for the sake of it. Two things though. In an unheated garage up here in June you're waiting a good twenty five minutes before it's worth getting in, sometimes more. And the tent gets genuinely hot to the touch near the element, hot enough that I'm careful where I lean and I wouldn't leave a kid unsupervised anywhere near it. Both fine once you know. I just didn't know.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is this infrared or steam? +
Neither. It's real dry heat — radiant and convection off an electric heater, the same format almost all the long-term sauna research used. Infrared cabins run around 55–70°C and warm you directly rather than heating the air. Steam rooms sit around 40–55°C in high humidity. Both are fine things; neither is what the Finnish cohort studies measured. Those used dry heat at 80–100°C, and this reaches 85°C.
How long does it take to heat up? +
About 25 minutes from cold to temperature. The 1500 W heater is doing real work, so it isn't instant. Setup is separate and faster — around ten minutes, one person, no tools.
Where can I set it up? Will it work in an apartment? +
Anywhere dry with normal ventilation and a standard power point. A spare room, a garage, a covered balcony. There's no smoke, no plumbing and no drainage. Two constraints. Keep at least 30 cm clear of walls, curtains and anything combustible. And plug it directly into a wall socket — never an extension lead or a powerboard, because a 1500 W sustained load isn't what those are built for. Erected it's 170cm tall, so measure your ceiling height before ordering.
What does it cost to run? +
About 30 cents for a full session — preheat plus twenty minutes inside. The heater draws 1500 W, which sounds like a lot until you work it out: a 40-minute cycle is under a kilowatt-hour. We measured it with a plug-in meter. For comparison, a single infrared sauna session at a studio in Adelaide runs $35–50.
What's the warranty, and what happens if it breaks in year two? +
12 months, and we pay warranty freight both ways within Australia. The default for a confirmed fault is replacement, not a repair queue. The heater is independently tested to EN 60335-2-53, the international safety standard for sauna heating appliances. Certificates on request. After 12 months your Australian Consumer Law rights still apply and aren't limited by our warranty period. If something falls outside cover, we'll explain exactly why and give you a path forward — a repair quote at cost, or the right spare part.
What if I don't like it? +
14 sessions to decide. If it isn't for you, email us and send it back to Adelaide — full refund, no restocking fee, no forms. You cover the return freight, around $200 by courier, and we'll book it at cost. Before that you can cancel free before it's dispatched. After that it's on route and can't be cancelled.
