The tariffs this rests on

Every figure below uses two published Australian rates. Finder put the national average residential usage rate at about 32 c/kWh (updated 2 September 2026). Canstar Blue put the national range at 24 to 45 c/kWh depending on state, distributor and tariff, with South Australia the highest at 43.7 c/kWh (May 2026).

The cheapest to run by a wide margin, for the simple reason that it is heating one person's worth of space rather than a room. Infrared cabins, roughly 1.6 to 3.5 kW

The most expensive to run, and by a long way. The costs that are not electricity

The electrician, which only applies to some types

Steam is the opposite. A wet room stays damp between uses, so mould management is an ongoing job rather than a hypothetical, and generators need descaling in hard-water areas.
